I love the way your tongue limps over consonants
But lingers idly on some
Is it linguistics that makes your love
Holy
Is there a cathedral behind your lips
That no one can see
Is it the Irish Sea I hear in your whisper
Come closer
Let’s get lost in translation and I’ll taste what I can’t understand
The details just don’t matter
I heard love
That L that limps forward on your palate like the
Liffey limps toward Dublin Bay
The O that’s as soft and hollow as the
Crypts at Clonmacnoise
The V that vibrates on your lips like the tender hum of
Spirits ten thousand years old
And an E
As silent as the fields of Athenry
Sweet sound, let me swallow your meaning
And I’ll never be hungry again
Excellent – playful and heartfelt and a geography lesson for the heart!
Thank you, David!
this is just so lovely, thank you
Thanks very much. š
This was absolutely awesome!! Great imagery!
Thank you, Kimberly!
“The V that vibrates on your lips like the tender hum of
Spirits ten thousand years old”
Maggie, there are certain accents that carry a singular, mysterious charm… an ancient history… untold stories… I get that enchanted feeling when I watch the elves in Lord of the Rings…
As always, thank you Vincent.
You fall in love with an Irish man? That’s easy! We’re very lovable!
beautifully written!
Thank you! š
I would love to actually hear you say “… Crypts of Clonmacnoise” …. this is such beautiful music …. I like this poem a lot … everything about it ….
Thank you so much, Travis. I’m especially flattered that you like my stuff as well as I liked yours!
I love listening to your poetry, the way you linger over the consonants and the vowels and the sounds they make, playing with the images they create. Beautiful.
Thank you, Deborah. š
OMG….This was sooooo beautiful. I am Irish and have been there so I know the places that you speak of. What a wonderful idea for a poem. You have lifted my heart…Thank you.

Sooz, you are so kind, and your comment has absolutely made my day. Thank you!
I heard love š
Extraordinary poem of praise to voice and the production of it. Wonderful
Thank you so much. Language has always been a limitless source of beauty for me, but the Irish accent is just so deliciously sensuous and lovely that even simple words sound like the best of music and poetry combined. Thank you, again, for reading and commenting!
My God, this is awsome
High praise when it comes from such talent. Thank you!
Very imaginative and lovely.
Thank you, thank you! I’ve been away from my blog for a bit and am just seeing this comment, but thank you for reading! š
This is gorgeous from beginning to end. “taste what I can’t understand”…I love that.
Thank you, Eric! I’m just now seeing this comment!
You have a lot of talent! I love this poem. I hope you don’t intend on putting down your pen for a long, long time! š
Thank you! No, I never intended on putting it down at all! But I’m finishing my Masters degree, so I might be MIA until May. We’ll see. Thank you so much for reading and following!
Good luck with that! And of course, love your work! š
I loved listening to this clever, eloquent piece. Well done.
hello beautiful! See you’re lost in deep thought (looking at the picture right side). You know I just realized the eye doctor, who gave me a hug before I left her office a couple weeks ago, resembles you only with dark hair. But you’re prettier! š
Ha, thank you? I was lost in thought over Fredric Jameson. He’s my arch nemesis.
So lush, Magaidh. Thank you for creating this beauty.
Holly! Hi! Thank you. š
